How to Start a Podcast

JUST F*CKING START!

Seriously, though. There are a million f*cking excuses for why you haven’t started one already. Forget that sh*t and JUST START!

My podcast has literally changed my life!

Back in 2018, I took the plunge after my first business mentor told me it would be a smart move to boost visibility and market my online biz. I had no clue it would lead to THIS! Six years later with The Sam Alteri Show and…

→ It’s in the top 1.5% of ALL podcasts

→ It’s made my company more than $1 million

→ We just dropped our 300th episode

→ We have hundreds of 5 star reviews

→ There are listeners from 131 countries

More importantly, it’s become the outlet to connect with my soul family in a more authentic way. It’s the place I can unapologetically share my real, RAW stories!

I wanted to give value and build intimacy with my community and podcasting has been the perfect platform to share all the things.

And here’s the kicker—I’m an entrepreneur with ADHD. So if podcasting worked for me, juggling 10 different ideas and tasks at once, it’ll work for you too. If tech freaks you out or you’re convinced there’s just no time in your jam-packed schedule, I’ve got you

Podcasting can actually simplify your life, help you make money, attract dream clients, and give you a long-form platform to speak your truth without needing to squeeze yourself into an Instagram caption.

Don’t let the overwhelm stop you from doing what you know in your full body you’re meant to do! I’m sharing with you EXACTLY how I started my podcast (and spoiler alert, it was very messy at the beginning, but I started ANYWAY)!

1. Use What You Already Have

Don’t overcomplicate this sh*t! Grab your phone, throw on your earbuds, and hit record. You don’t need fancy mics, mixers, or soundproof studios to get started. I started out recording directly onto my iphone and still grew my show!!

2. Messy is Magic

Nobody’s expecting Call Her Daddy-level production from your first episode (or even your 50th). Focus on your message and being authentic, not the perfect edit—your audience is here for YOU, not the flawless sound. I have even recorded a podcast on my phone while walking in nature – which gives it the feeling that my listeners are on a walk with me.

3. Batch Record to Save Time

You’re juggling a million things, I get it. The trick? Set aside one afternoon, record a few episodes in one go, and then release them weekly. BOOM, you’re a podcast machine with content for weeks.

4. Make the Tech Your B*tch

There are so many podcasting platforms (like Spotify for Podcasters or Buzzsprout) that make it easy to upload and distribute your episodes without needing to learn a single line of code. These platforms even help you get on all the major podcast directories like Apple and Spotify. Click here to check out my post with a list of the simple AF tech stack that you need to start/grow your own show.

5. You’re a Badass! Own it!

You’re not boring, and your ideas are not too late for the podcast game. I know it’s easy to be in your head … but the longer you wait to start, the more pressure you put on yourself. There’s an audience out there who needs exactly what you have to say. Whether you’re talking about building a biz, balancing life and work, or literally just sharing stories, your soul family is waiting for you. Start sharing what’s on your heart and by speaking your truth, you will connect to the exact people who need to hear whatever it is that you have to say.

If I can grow my show, I promise… SO CAN YOU. Don’t let the fear of tech, time, or rejection stop you from getting started. Podcasting is your golden ticket to self-expression, getting your message to the masses, making money, building authority, and getting your voice heard. STOP OVERTHINKING—grab my Podcast Checklist and get started!
